Sharing the Book of Mormon
This week has been good. We were able to share the Book of Mormon a lot in everything, which always makes for a good week, because when I am able to read the Book of Mormon with people and give it away to people I know I am giving them truth despite my crappy Japanese! Haha and that's what I'm here to do.
Here is a Book of Mormon miracle:
We talked to this high schooler a few days ago, probably like 15-17 years old. We asked her if she had ever learned about Jesus Christ (sometimes schools talk about Him for a bit in history class here) and she said she had! We asked her if she had an image of Him or who He was and she just said she thought He was scary. :((( so we were like what why is He scary? And the only image she had of Him was as somebody dead on a cross. And that really is a pretty scary image to have in your mind if you don't understand. But my companions started teaching her a little bit and I was able to find Alma 7:11-13 in a Book of Mormon. We introduced it a bit and told her this teaches us a little bit about why he died like that.
11 And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people.
12 And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities.
13 Now the Spirit knoweth all things; nevertheless the Son of God suffereth according to the flesh that he might take upon him the sins of his people, that he might blot out their transgressions according to the power of his deliverance; and now behold, this is the testimony which is in me.
After we read it together we talked about it. We talked about why He died and we learned together, and my companions and I got to testify that He still lives. That his life did not "conclude on Calvary"! And that because of that We can do all things through Him. We asked her again what her image of Christ is. She paused for a minute and then said "at first I thought He was scary, but now I see that He is nice." Seeing people change is the best. That's what the Book of Mormon and "a broken heart and a contrite spirit" and some love and the Spirit does.
She wanted to meet with us again and we've been messaging back and forth and she is so sweet, but now she has told us that she thinks if her mom knew that we were going to meet again she thinks her mom would tell her it's not allowed. Pretty sad and kinda heart breaking honestly. But it was such a miracle to meet her that week and really be able to teach her. And now she has a Book of Mormon. ❤❤
The Book of Mormon is miraculous! And being able to testify of Christ and His Atonement, and use the Book of Mormon to do so, is the most powerful way to go. On tuesday we met our new mission president! Woot woot president Esplin! And 3 of his daughters. (One will be living here with them an finishing high school here!!!!) President Esplin specifically told us to refer to the Church as Christ's church. He reminded us not only not to introduce it as the mormon church, but he also suggested that we drop the matsu jitsu seito part (Latter Day Saints in Japanese), and just stick to Jesus Christ's church. It is helping me to testify of Christ so much faster now and I love it.
But ya, there's a little story, and scripture, and thought for this week.
This coming week we are meeting with multiple new people, and some people that we've been teaching for a few weeks now, as well as some less active members. It is a busy week ahead of us, but please pray for everyone to be able to let themselves be taught by the Spirit, and be able to come to church.
Thank you, love you,
Ka-ru Shimai
