Sharing the Book of Mormon...and loving Japan's Grandmas

No time. ごめん。 truly sorry. Seriously sucks because there were SO MANY MIRACLES this week. Seriously SO many.

Top 2:
We met this girl one day and when we tried to exchange lines (instant messaging app) her phone wouldn't work so we couldn't! But then the next day, president nagano suggested we do language study in a public place, so we did language and companion study in a park by the church, and guess who walks by yelling out to us the she fixed her line! Rie! The same girl. So we swapped lines and chatted for a bit and when she asked what we were doing we were able to tell her about the Book of Mormon. Apparently the BOM is really really hard to read in japanese, but we showed her Ether 12:27 and it just made sense to her. She really liked it and she gladly took the Book of Mormon from my hands and said she would read more later that night. Over line we were able to talk a bit about going to church too, and she'll be coming to our Eikaiwa / english class this week and I really think she would have a wonderful experience at church and am hoping she'll be able to come this next week.

Speaking of church...
This week we had a new investigator come to church. She was late so she missed sacrament meeting and most of gospel principles, but she was able to come to relief society and the lesson was aboit the Book of Mormon. I may not understand everything but I'm pretty sure she got to hear a lot of testimonies about the Book of Mormon. Best intro to church and the BOM ever. She is great and so sweet. Hahah her english is pretty good, she was actually helping translate some of the class for me, and we also practiced singing" I Feel my Saviour's Love". She told us she is interested in learning about Christianity because she is going to the USA this August and knows that country has more of a Christian back ground. She is a super kind sweet hearted person. We told her we teach lessons about our beliefs and she was totally in for taking them. I know as she feels the spirit her desire to follow Christ will grow. Lessons are really just a way to help people feel the spirit and invite them to make the effort to bring the Spirit into their life, by their own choice. I'm so excited for her.

Also so more on obaachans dendo aka grandma missionary work. Because it is my favourite. 2 of my favourite things about Japan: it's flowers, and it's grandmas.

They are adorable and have the most adorable little styles. We met this grandma one day who was out and a power walk just swinging her arms so hard and we stopped to talk to her and ask her where she was off to and she was just like "I walk this path every day". The old people here are always just out and about and are so lively and keep their schedules so well. Very impressive. We also ran into this other little old lady twice and she had the same funny little knit bucket hat thing on both times and she is so adorable. She's 83 but she's just out and about walking every where. She has no top teeth but has all of her bottom ones and has the most adorable smile and laugh hahah so funny. I understand like none of what she says and she walks really slow. But the second time we met her though we were on our way to a bakery so when we got their I bought her a donut for like 80 cents and when we gave it to her she was so grateful and taken by surprise. Hehehe I love buying little old nice people gifts they are so adorable and appreciative. So then when we gave it to her she tried to tell us where she lives and was trying to explain to us what the kanji of her name looks like (her name is Yamashita San but in kanji that is 山下). The problem is neither me or my companion understood her instructions... So hopefully we run into her again and then we can just help her carry her groceries home or something.

Oh man she's great.

But ya there's an adventure from this week.

Hahaha I challenge you to just strike up a conversation with a cute old grandma this week. Then buy them a candy or something. Hahahah let me know how it goes if you can manage. Holy cow I've made so many little friends here just by buying people little gifts of appreciation for their kindness. People are great.

That will be all for this week. I wish you all well. I love you

2. So this is a packet of jam from a restaurant wrapped up in a napkin. While we were out for our morning run we bumped into this amazing member from our ward who then took us out for breakfast. And then while we were out for breakfast the member decided that we should go sit with the adorable old lady who was sitting all by herself. I understand like nothing older people say for multiple reasons. To begin with sometimes they're just quieter because it's harder for them to talk (ie they have no upper teeth like the lady from the other story) but on top of that they also just use way crazy japanese. But anyway, so once we finish our meals and the grandma sees I didn't use my jam packet she takes it and carefully wraps it up in this napkin for me. Based on her mad precision and skill, I could tell this wasn't her first time wrapping a jam packet... only in Japan.
