First email from Japan...already making friends
I'm surrounded by buildings for the most part. And classic me being disoriented I literally have no clue where I am. A place called Yachiyo. Thats the ward I'm in at least. My address is 2760020 chiba ken yachiyo shi katsutadaikita 2 17 10 floral hagiwara II #101. So you might be able to walk around on street view in google maps if you go to that address. Its great though. I feel like Im finally getting settled and starting to understand how to be a missionary and be effective. My trainer / comp is ultra productive and efficient so that's been great. She's been here for like 5 months and the ward just loves her. We're going to the bishop's house for dinner on Thursday so pray that I'm able to eat everything and not offend anyone hahah. I'm excited though. I had a slight panic attack on like Friday where I started hyperventilating and stuff but I'm good now. I get what I'm doing now. Dang the Japanese is hard. I dont understand like anything, but I think I'm getting better at making sure people know I love them w/o talking. Which is good cause it's not like i would've talked that much in english anyway, so the "only japanese" thing is actually a big help. Im trying to be less nervous about speaking and just going for it and giving it a shot.
However, I've definitely been blessed with lots of opportunities to use English. First of all I told you about the ward missionary leader from Canada, so that's nice for the english part of my brain. But on friday night we went to a sports night activity, and on the way we went to visit and invite this slightly shy less-active 12 year-old young women. My comp has only seen her 2 in the last 5 months. She opens the door a crack and at first won't talk to me only whisper to sis Dobbs. But when i said I'm from Canada she jokingly slammed the door but then opened it again and said she meet us at the activity in a bit. She was still timid and didn't particularly like that there were boys at the ward activity as well. But she speaks perfect english and we became good friends. I invited her to church but she didn't end up coming. However, I feel like we could just keep on inviting her to things and reminding her and then maybe she'll start coming more and notice a difference or at least make friends w another young women. Idk, she comes from a bit of a tough background and I know coming to church could help her, cause it sounds to me like she doesn't feel much purpose or know where to draw attention from. But anyways, so even out here in Japan Im blessed to be able to use my english to love others, and find friends who will help me w my japanese. Jahaha Hiromi is a bit of a genius / tensai / てんさい.
Life is good. Thanks for your email mama.
